The Post
Office
When the population began to grow in
1914, Dome Creek first applied to get a post office.
Shortly after, Frank Gleason opened his
store in Dome Creek in the 1920’s and the post office
was operated out of it.
This was the first “real” post office building,
before that the Post office was run out
of peoples homes. The Post Office operated in the store
until the early 60’s when at that time
Jimmy Miller took it over. He ran the
post office out of his home until his death in the mid 1070’s.
After his death, the community built a
small structure to house the new post office and it
now sits in its original spot. At that
time Eva Blangy became the new Post Mistress, she
ran it from 1975 until she retired in
1982.
After Eva’s retirement, Ken (Smitty)
Smith took on as Postmaster and moved the little building
to his house. (Just across the tracks
from where it was). In 1983 the post office was moved up to
Dave and Wendy Howe’s property when
Wendy became the Post Mistress.
Wendy still operates the Post Office,
which is located on their property
in a new building. The old building was
returned to
its original place and later became the
Library. It still sits there today.
